A fellow Canon Shooter out taking some photographs of the Zenkoji area. I liked how he gripped the camera along with the lens hood and hat which made for an interesting shot.

Well the DVDs arrived yesterday. It took about two weeks to get the items from Midwest Photo Exchange located in Columbus, OH. This is the only place offering the Strobist DVDs at this time. I paid $139 dollars for the 8 DVD set and was dinged with $35.00 shipping to Japan via UPS. UPS then dinged me for 600 yen duty which is the first time I have ever had to pay duty for any DVDs. Thus aside from the Strobist DVDs, I wish I could have purchased them from some other company. Midwest Photo Exchange probably made a few bucks of the postage and UPS definitely made a few bucks as well. I just hate it sometimes when it’s so unnecessary. Now on to viewing the DVDS. I’ll post another update shortly. Geez….we should have a viewing party!

Although not an avid everyday reader of “The Strobist”, I have definitely been interested in the material he talks about. In Japan, I like to use flash and try to shoot off camera as much as possible. I was surprised this morning to see that a new DVD flash lighting box set was released and only 1000 copies too. So I rushed to get in an order for Japan. The excerpt on using Gels for cool backgrounds was really nice and I’m looking forward to revisiting the basics of flash and solidifying my knowledge even more. I’ll post more info once I receive the DVDs which may take one to two weeks to arrive. If you have any desire to do a lot of off camera flash, this DVD set is probably you’re best bet to reduce the learning curve in a short period of time. Of course getting out and practicing on your own will great help as well. Enjoy!

Crab scaling the walls in the city of Nagoya. Anyone know the name of this famous restaurant? I believe they are from the Kansai area as I’ve seen this in Osaka as well if correct.

Nagoya Ferris Wheel attached to the side of a building. Pretty wicked I thought.

Nagoya Fashion Alert - Not really the fashion of Nagoya but that is the point I think. All types of people were found wearing all types of fashion. It was really nice to see.

Castle Skyward is just trying to get an interesting perspective on Nagoya Castle. Almost everywhere is looking up so it was a challenging to find something different. I wish there was a place to look down on the castle, but then I guess you couldn’t call it a castle then.

Window Veins of Nagoya Castle displays up close the detail of the walls and windows of the fortress. I managed to get lots of shots similar to this which were pretty cool. If anyone visits Nagoya Castle, be sure to bring a good zoom lens as you will need it to get up close like this. For this shot I had the 70-300 which worked very well I thought. I could have brought the 70-200, but I didn’t have much room in my bag as I had to pack other things. Although I don’t like variable aperture lenses very much, I do use the 70-300 quite a bit because it is light weight and it seems to take pretty good shots between the 200-300mm range.
