One of the more interesting or difficult aspects I’ve had to consider with my digital cameras is the subject of how to carry or pack them around. I do almost all of my ordering online since I reside in Japan, so I usually have to either look at the photos or try to find reviews from other websites. Below I have outlined the bags and accessories I have chosen to start my journey with.Â
Kata Bags
I first chose Kata because they looked pretty cool. Being a little fashion oriented, I thought perhaps I might give these a try first. So I ended up acquiring three different types of Kata bags.Â
1. R-103 GDC Rucksack - This backpack has been great. It will fit my D200 body with grip, VR 70-200mm, and reversed hood all attached. I then carry additional lenses and an SB800 flash unit around the sides.
2. W-92 GDC Waist-Pack - The waistpack has been great to mainly put accessories in and a couple of lenses. I actually use this to carry a water bottle, lense, PD70x or Epson P4000 portable file storage unit, batteries, flash cords, iPod, and extra flash cards. I also carry my Whibel White Balance cards and a manual.
3. T-212 GDC Torso-Pack - This unit I must say I used quite a bit during the winter season. It wraps around your chest nicely and when worn under my heavy jacket, keeps me warm pretty well. I’m not sure if I’ll wear it around in the spring or summer because it looks like I am packing a gun or something and may make me feel a bit timid. However, it is very useful for packing around small flat accessories like a storage unit, SB800 flash, SU-800, and/or batteries. I usually carry my portable phone, extra batteries, and PD70x in there. I don’t put the camera in this bag because it really seems bulky and uncomfortable to me. It’s very small for the D70s or D200 bodies in my opinion. You could put a 35mm, 50mm, or 60mm prime lense in there, but I wouldn’t go much larger than that. It’s just too awkward in my opinion.
I’ll try to add some photos to this post of my Kata bags soon. I’ll also write about the Lowepro bags and cases I have chosen along with the things you can carry inside them.Â
