If you check out my library link, you’ll notice that I have an insane collection of photography and photoshop books. I still need to update my list as I just received another big shipment from Amazon here in Japan. You might say I fall into the trap sometimes of thinking a book is going to make me a better photoshop or photography expert. However, I do understand fully that nothing beats practice, practice, and more practice. With that said, I do find books and DVDs to be an invaluable source of inspiration and a great help in understading the direction you might want to take with your photography or post processing.
A few weeks ago I ordered a book called “Skin” from Amazon. This book has been absolutely awesome for working with curves, levels, color, sharpening, and lighting with skin as it pertains to portraits and digital photography. There are plenty of examples, photographs, and explanations to get you thinking about various ways to correct and/or modify skin color, texture, and effects. There is a lot of great material in this 405 page book and I highly recommend it to anyone learning about photoshop digital portrait photography with an emphasis on skin.
