Hello everyone,

Last week I bought a mint Nikon USA: 28mm f/1.4D AF Nikkor aka “The Light Magnet” from a very reputable store on Ebay. Below I have attached a photo of the exact 28mm f/1.4 lens I purchased. Many Nikon lens enthusiasts know that this lense is now difficult to find because it was recently discontinued. Brand new, the 28mm f/1.4D AF Nikkor ran about $1700. Unfortunately due to the rarity of this lens now, I had to fork over $2700 for my copy of this beautiful lens. Is it worth it? Well it all depends of course on who you ask. I am of course kicking myself that I didn’t understand the nature of this lens when I first started this Nikon hobby about two years ago. I certainly would have saved myself a thousand bucks and picked one up in an instant. However, with the fact that this lens is now in such high demand, I am actually very excited to have obtained a 28mm f/1.4D AF Nikkor in such mint condition and ready to shoot.

I am very excited about doing some major handheld night and low light photography. Carrying a tripod around in with the places I go to is just not the best option lately. I should add that I pondered for quite a while in getting the Sigma 30mm f/1.4. This is certainly a great lens and one that most recommend as the best alternative to the Nikon 28mm f/1.4D AF Nikkor.

Call me a Nikon Purist, Collector, or simply insane. I just always wanted to have the legendary “Light Magnet” and now I am pleased to say for better or worse, I now have one. I hope to post some photos shortly taken from the 28mm f/1.4D and the Nikon D200. I should also mention that it would be very easy for me to sell this lens with the condition it is in for probably $3500.00 plus in where I live. So perhaps I can justify the cost a little by saying I could make a profit if I were to ever sell it. Something tells me though that I will keep this magnificent light magnet for sometime to come.

Enjoy! - Jim
