Vintage Japan
Written by ricoche in Saturday, October 27th 2007
This is a hair stylist in Nagano Japan who we did a photoshoot not too long ago with. The photo was post processed in Photoshop with a number of techniques to give this sort of Grunge or Vintage look. I don't usually like a lot of stuff on the face so I purposely cleaned that area up a little and left the rest with vintage grunge.

The Grunge Look
Written by ricoche in Friday, October 26th 2007
Here are a couple of shots of Aily and Sasha sporting the Grunge Look. I used layered textures that I shot with my 105mm VR lens. I then did some various techniques using blend modes, curves, levels, and saturation to achieve the desired look. It probably took about 15 minutes per photo to do everything I needed to make this look. I thought they turned out pretty good.

Tilt Shift Lens Blur
Written by ricoche in Friday, October 26th 2007
This is an shot using a Tilt Shift Lens Blur technique in Photoshop CS3. I am so glad I was able to find a way to do this as it is just what the doctor ordered with some of my photos. This one in particular I think works well with a tilt shift lens blur. I am looking forward to shooting more for this technique in future photoshoots in Japan.

Techno Art Photography Japan

Today I was out hanging around these railroad tracks I live by. This particular area of the tracks is quite cool because there are no fences and you can literally walk out onto the tracks if you want to. Anyway, while I was sitting and waiting for some trains to pass I happened to look up and saw these metallic wires, poles, and what not. I took a shot of what I [+]
Zenkoji Temple Nagano Japan
Written by ricoche in Friday, October 19th 2007
Some people have emailed me asking where I live in Japan. By car, I live about 5 minutes from Zenkoji, Temple which is located at the heart of Nagano-city. So you might say I live in Nagano city. Zenkoji is connected to the city which means I have a HUGE area to cover for all kinds of interesting photography. Whether it's shooting people, street scenes, history, or whatever, I don't have [+]
Graffiti Japan
Written by ricoche in Thursday, October 18th 2007
Recently I have noticed a large increase in Graffiti or tagging as they say around the Nagano, Japan area. I've lived in Nagano for about 5 years now and have definitely seen a steady increase. I am not exactly sure if there are any gangs or if it's simply individual artists out doing there thing. The photo below is one such example I found and whether this is art or simply tagging [+]
Japanese Postal Express
Written by ricoche in Thursday, October 18th 2007
Here is a typical Japanese Postman on a red Postal Service Motor Bike. These are all over Japan of course and they ride these things like mad. You really have to watch out they don't run over you! They do ride these things pretty fast however, they are pretty good drivers in my opinion. I've seen them navigate some pretty tricky obstacles. Like most other countries they work very hard [+]
Marlbro Japan
Written by ricoche in Tuesday, October 16th 2007
This is a photograph of a cigarette on the street in Nagano, Japan. This is probably a good example of trying to make a shot out of nothing. I was down to my last few shots on my memory card and thought I would see what I could do with this particular subject. I then did various post processing techniques in Photoshop to give it a new look.

Shooting your own textures!
Written by ricoche in Monday, October 15th 2007
One of the things I enjoy doing very much while I walk around Japan is to shoot textures. A while back I used to search and download textures off the internet, but then I thought how easy that might be to just shoot textures myself. From there I got hooked! Now everytime I do any sort of photoshoot I also look out for any interesting scenes or objects that could be used [+]More From Photography Japan
