Another great day of shooting some lanterns around the city of Nagano, Japan. Here’s a black and white shot I recently took near Zenkoji, Temple.

The bandana around the guys head is what first caught my attention. This is very typical among men working outdoors in Japan regardless of the weather. Construction workers as well can be seen sporting towels wrapped around their heads or neck. It’s very popular and perhaps wise to keep the sweat under control.

Narrow Margin

Narrow Margin is an exercise in selective focusing. In this photo I got pretty much a tilt shift look with just angling the lens and focusing only on a portion of the stone. I rather like this effect and this is one of my favorite photos of the day.

Japanese lanterns are a blast to photograph in Japan. I shot this photograph with a lot of light in the background towards the sky in order to get that high-key white background look.

A color arrangement of Orange Japanese lanterns cast against a beautiful purple background. I love working with color and this shot was definitely a really fun. There are lots of different lanterns in Japan for all occasions and seasons. It’s awesome when I see something new and different. Enjoy!
